Final notes
Wrapping it all up
This blog was created on one of those spur of the moment impulses. At the time that David Davis announced his shock resignations from the then shadow cabinet and as an MP the establishment did all it could to present play the man and duck the issue. Pundits for TV and newspapers hinted it was part of his ego, Labour tried to call it a stunt, some darker and hurtful insinuations were made by senior Labour figures which do not deserve repetition here. What was clear is that the establishment did not like such direct appeals to the people, who could not be trusted to 'understand'. ( In fairness the leadership of both the Liberal Democrats and Conservative parties did offer their support, but there were plenty of people available to brief against a former colleague when the BBC went looking for them.)
But the public thought differently, and so did I. I asked a few other bloggers if they would add posts and I list one from each of them here, but I wanted to place this at the side of the blog - to leave the last word to David Davis on the speech the BBC 'somehow' failed to broadcast.
Its time to wrap it all up. I'm not sure what use will be made of all the masses of articles and posts bloggers leave every day, but these posts are left for someone else to do with what they want.
The cost of freedom is eternal vigilance - Thomas Jefferson. A man who inherited the great English tradition of freedom and a constrained state and set about helping to create one of the greatest free countries the world has ever seen.

The aim of this blog is to try to bring together strands of opinion and support for David Davis' stand, triggered by the threatened removal of ancient freedoms by the government bill for 42 day detention without charge.
